According to Kathleen Keating, R.A., M.N., author of The Hug Therapy Book, hugs take many forms depending on what you want to communicate. A few examples include:
The Bear Hug
ideal for two individuals of disproportionate sizes and for saying, "You're terrific," or "You can count on me".The A-Frame
Brief embrace ideal for little-known relatives and situations requiring a bit of formality. All of the hugging takes place above the neck. This hug communicates polite caring or detached warmth. Great for new huggers. The Cheek Hug
A tender hug that can be executed sitting or standing. This hug says "I'm sorry you're disappointed," or is ideal to share joy or greet an elderly relative. The Group Hug
Great for good friends sharing an activity or project. Group hugs communicate support, security, affection, unity and universal belonging.Monday, July 23, 2012

Hugs are not only nice they are needed... Hugs can relieve pain and depression.. make the healthier happier, and the most secure even more so.. Hugging feels good and overcomes fear... It provides stretching exercise to short people and stooping exercise to tall people... Hugging does not upset the environment.. It saves heat and energy... requires no special equipment.. Hugging makes happy days happier and impossible days possible.

A HUG
No moving parts, no batteries.
No monthly payments and no fees;
Inflation proof, non-taxable,
In fact, it's quite relaxable;
It can't be be stolen, won't pollute,
One size fits all, do not dilute.
It uses little energy,
But yields results enormously,
Relieves your tension and your stress,
Invigorates your happiness;
Combats depression, makes you beam,
And elevates your self esteem!
Your circulation it corrects
Without unpleasant side effects
It is, I think, the perfect drug:
May I prescribe, my friend,....the hug!
(and of course fully returnable!)

Guidelines for Hugging
- Be compassionate, not passionate - communicate comfort and caring.
- Ask for permission - hugging requires a sender and receiver. Accepting that hugging isn't for everyone is simply another form of understanding and acceptance.
- Ask permission when you need a hug. Hugging for wellness is a practice of sharing - if you need a hug simply ask for one. And if you receive a hug, let the sender know you are appreciative.
- Take responsibility for expressing what you need.

Hugs
Hugs are warm, hugs are nice.
Hugs are ways, to break the ice.
If you send me a hug, you won't regret.
I´ll hug you back, so you can´t forget.
A hug is just a way to say, I love you in a special way.
To tell someone special, I care about you in everyway.
When you shed a tender tear, a hug i sure to be near.
When you´re trimbling in fear, a hug will come from someone dear.
Wrap your arms around some near, in your hug is the circle of life.
A new beginning to an endless night, a ray of hope to light you´re way.
Take a hug and pass it on, don´t save them up it can´t be done.
Share them with family and friends, share them whenever you can.
A hug will make you "aahh", a hug will make you "oohh".
A hug will make you smile, a hug will make you feel great.
A hug lightens up your day, a hug throws away your loads.
A hug strengthens your ties, a hug makes you feel important.
Stop! Take a break, a hug is harmless.
It only takes a little of your time, why not share a hug?
We all need a hug. Don't we mate?

Hugging is a good medicine
It transfers energy and gives the person
hugged an emotional lift. You need four hugs
a day for survival, eight for maintenance, and
twelve for growth. Scientists say that hugging
is a form of communication because it can say
things you don't have the words for. And the
nicest thing about a hug us that you usually can't
give one without getting one.

the importance of hugs (real story)
This picture is from an article called “The Rescuing Hug”. The article details the first week of life of a set of twins. Each were in their respective incubators and one was not expected to live. A hospital nurse fought against the hospital rules and placed the babies in one incubator. When they were placed together, the healthier of the two threw an arm over her sister in an endearing embrace. The smaller baby’s heart stabilized and temperature rose to normal.
